When Expectations Are Shaped by the Past
Many expectations in relationships are rooted in deeper emotional narratives. Some people enter partnerships hoping their partner will compensate for past emotional wounds or unmet needs. Others minimise their own needs, believing they owe their partner, fear conflict, or worry about losing the relationship if they speak up.
In both cases, the outcome is the same: important needs go unexpressed, and partners drift apart emotionally. Relationship alignment cannot happen when needs remain unnamed.
